Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:33pm, December 30, 2022) that Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is “erratic” and has urged Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez to be more like his Anfield teammate Mohamed Salah.

The former Manchester United defender made the comments about Arsenal and Brazil international striker Jesus while discussing Liverpool’s Nunez.

The Uruguay international striker has been criticised by some for not scoring enough goals for Liverpool and for not taking his chances.

Neville believes that Nunez will eventually have to become a goalscorer like his Liverpool teammate Salah.

The Sky Sports pundit has added that he thinks that Jesus, who earns £265,000 per week (Spotrac) as salary at Arsenal, is erratic in his goalscoring.

Jesus joined Arsenal from defending Premier League champions Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

The Brazil international striker has scored five goals and given five assists in 14 Premier League matches for the Gunners so far this season.

The 25-year-old is on the sidelines at the moment due to an injury he picked up while playing for Brazil at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Jesus has scored 63 goals in 173 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Neville said: “Jesus at £40 million, £45 million, he will always be a player who is erratic in his goalscoring, but I love him as a player.

“Salah has been devastating for five years, and he (Nunez) is going to have to decide whether he is going to be the Jesus-type player or the Salah-type player.

“The problem is that he cannot be a Jesus-type player for £90 million. He has to be a goalscorer.”
