The 2022 FIFA World Cup will soon be upon us, and with it comes a slate of new kits from the 32 nations hoping to win football’s biggest prize this winter out in Qatar.

The football kit industry has never been bigger, with many top clubs now releasing as many as four shirts a season as fans continue to make jerseys more of a fashion statement, and this could develop into more of a case this year with the 2022 World Cup.

Whilst this year’s kits have seemingly not hit the same heights as other editions of the competition, there are still some beauty’s out on show this year, with the likes of Adidas, Nike and even Hummel all pulling it out of the bag with some out-there designs.

Anticipation for the World Cup is building, and without further ado, here are HITC Football’s ten best kits for the competition, featuring some unlikely nations ahead of what is sure to be a tournament to remember for many football fans.

Argentina – Away

The 2022 World Cup is set to be Lionel Messi’s last ever for Argentina, so it’s only fitting that the South American powerhouses were given quite the away kit for the attacker’s swansong on football’s biggest stage.

The purple kit with a flame-like effect on the bottom oddly works given how far from tradition it is for an Argentina kit. And for Messi, the PSG attacker will be hopeful of finally winning the World Cup in what is set to be his final major competition for La Albiceleste.

Denmark – Home

Denmark’s home kit might not seem like much, but the message behind it is arguably the best of the lot. As per the Guardian, the Scandinavian nation will wear protest kits that aim to criticise the human rights record the Qatar World Cup has so shamelessly exploited, with thousands of deaths being accounted as a direct link to the competition.

With Denmark also set to wear a full black kit, as well, the Dane’s message ahead of the competition is clear and one that should be applauded throughout the footballing world, with other participating countries doing their part to protest Qatar’s archaic human rights record and the lives that have already been lost for this World Cup.

England – Away

England’s Euro 2020 kit was applauded as one of the best in recent memory as the Three Lions made it all the way to the final at Wembley Stadium. Which is why it was such a shame that their new home strip for the World Cup is arguably one of the worst in the entire competition. Thankfully, the away shirt is here to save the day.

From the colours to the font, England’s away kit will be one of the best on show in Qatar this winter. And with Gareth Southgate’s side one of the favourites to go all the way, this shirt could soon become a staple of English culture should Harry Kane and company win the World Cup out in the Middle East.

Ghana – Home

Puma were rightfully slammed for their disastrous away template for all their World Cup-sponsored nations this winter, with the likes of Switzerland, Serbia and Morocco all heading to the competition with an away kit that will no doubt be in bargain bins across the world. However, some home shirts survived the mess, including Ghana.

The Black Stars head to Qatar as the lowest-ranked nation in the entire tournament, and as a result, their home kit might be the most underrated in the entire World Cup, with the sleek yet minimalist design really catching the eye as the Ghanian Star is proudly shown on the front.

Germany – Home

Germany and top-quality World Cup kits are as strong a couple as Harry Maguire and making defensive mistakes, and this year’s home strip is no exception, with the four-time world champions seemingly taking some inspiration from England’s Euro 2020 kit last year.

With the European giants heading to Qatar hopeful of joining Brazil at the top of the World Cup rankings, this kit could also become a potential classic if Germany go far in the competition, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry likely to become very popular shirt sellers for Adidas.

Japan – Home

Three things seem to be guaranteed at World Cups; incredible goals, fantastic drama, and Japan having one of the best kits of the entire competition, with 2022 already having one of the three guarantees already from the Asian powerhouses.

Japan head to Qatar as one of the underdogs of the entire competition, with Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi and Arsenal titan Takehiro Tomiyasu ready to show the world what they are capable of. And as for the Samurai Blue’s home kit, it could easily be the best of the lot this winter.

Senegal – Home

Just like with Ghana, Senegal have been blessed with one of the best home kits of the entire World Cup after being dealt the painful hand that is the Puma away kit, and whilst the two African nations have seemingly similar home strips, there’s still a lot to appreciate.

With Sadio Mane’s nation heading to Qatar as reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions, there’s a good chance that Senegal can make another splash at a major international tournament, and their home kit could become iconic if they can progress out of their group stage.

South Korea – Away

South Korea have become something of a football kit collector’s favourite country, with Nike giving the Asian nation some of the best international jerseys in recent years with some out-there designs that have become immediate cult-classics, and the away strip for Qatar is no exception.

With Heung-min Son and company looking to best their 2018 World Cup exit from the group stages, South Korea will want to go far in the competition this time around in Qatar. And just like with Senegal, their away kit can become a classic for years to come if they proceed to the knockout stages of the tournament.

Wales – Away

Wales’ away kit might not be the most exciting or out-there design of the World Cup, but given how much this competition means for the people of Cymru, this strip is no doubt set to become an all-time classic for the home nation.

With Wales’ last World Cup coming all the way back in 1958, Gareth Bale’s side will want to make an impact in Qatar this winter, and their away kit, which pairs brilliantly with their all-red home strip, will certainly catch the eyes of neutral supporters out in the Middle East.
