Profit and Sustainability rules. It seems to be the talk of the transfer town.

Everyone from Tottenham Hotspur to Brighton and Hove Albion are looking over their shoulders at the business they conduct.

The Premier League, as was proven this season, is now starting to dish out points deductions for those who step over the mark and break the rules.

Tottenham aren’t in any trouble, and in that regard, are well run and this is where Daniel Levy deserves credit.

But the Spurs chairman still needs to back Ange Postecoglou in the transfer market and their rivals could provide them with a helping hand.

It has been well-documented that Chelsea have spent a crazy amount of money during the past few years, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that they now have to sell before they can buy.

Sam Matterface has hit out at the prospect that Chelsea have to sell a homegrown talent to comply with these rules and balance the books when there could be a better way.

The talkSPORT presenter used Conor Gallagher as an example and how his potential sale this summer ‘doesn’t make any sense’, as he told talkSPORT (02/06/24 at 2:30 pm).

Tottenham could secure Gallagher’s talents by the end of the window, with sources telling HITC that they plan a double transfer raid of their London rivals.

Chelsea having to sell Conor Gallagher

“Conor Gallagher is Chelsea through and through,” said Matterface. “You have got this opportunity. Fans have got this connection with him. He has got a connection with the fans and the club.

“Not selling him because you are getting £40 million on our balance sheet (for a homegrown player). It just doesn’t make any sense, whatsoever.

“I am not a financial expert. I am sure there are brighter people than me where the rules don’t encourage you to sell your best players. Where the rules are clear and unambiguous. Where the rules can be applied at a certain juncture, so everybody knows the punishments or if there are any punishments, it doesn’t influence the outcome of the table (re Everton and Forest this season) or make it unambiguous what the table is going to be at the end of the season. It should all be clear and it should be obvious.”

Conor Gallagher at Tottenham Hotspur

Usually, these two clubs don’t do business with one another. But a change at the top at Stamford Bridge has seemingly put an end to all of that.

You feel that Spurs would increase their chances of finishing in the top four for next season if they can land someone like Gallagher’s talents.

On one hand, Postecoglou gets what he wants and a player that suits his all-action style.

And, on the other, they make Chelsea weaker because they are only doing this for FFP purposes, whether fans like it or not.
