When Adam Idah first joined Celtic everything wasn’t exactly rosy in the Parkhead garden.

There was a lot of pressure on Brendan Rodgers because the Champions League campaign didn’t go to plan and there were faults in the league performances.

Added to that, whilst star striker Kyogo Furuhashi had scored big goals against Rangers home and away, the rest of his form was indifferent and many were laying that on Rodgers’ door, even if it was ‘uncalled’ for.

But that’s when Celtic knocked on Norwich City’s door in January and secured the talents of Adam Idah on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old wasn’t exactly the first name Celtic fans would have wanted to bring in, but he soon became a firm fan favourite, including scoring crucial goals against Hibernian and Rangers.

That winner in the Scottish Cup final seems to be Idah’s parting gift – that’s if he doesn’t return next season.

Jeff Stelling made it clear and he has told Norwich City, who are now without a manager after sacking David Wagner when they were beaten in the play-off semi-finals, to keep the Irishman on board, as he told talkSPORT (27/05/24 at 6:45 am).

As the long-serving football presenter mentioned, Rodgers had his ‘fair share’ of critics since returning.

But one of the reasons why he has been able to win them over and secure the double is because of players like Idah.

Adam Idah returns to Norwich City

“Brendan Rodgers has had his fair share of critics since he returned to the club, but it ends up being a double and winning the title by eight points,” said Stelling.

“If you are Norwich, you are wanting to hold onto him.”

Celtic need to sign Adam Idah

The player has posted on his social recently where he is wishing the club good luck for next season and seemingly hinting at no return.

Celtic would be daft, from their perspective, not to sign up the player for good and let Rodgers take his game to the next level. They were very smart to bring him in the first place, now they need to be smarter.

Look at the big goals he has scored. And imagine what he could do over a full campaign and with a pre-season under his belt.

Plus, Idah would be playing Champions League football, so surely Celtic should push for this one in these coming weeks and months because he would enhance the forward line, that’s for sure.
