Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are having a wonderful season. The Gunners could beat Liverpool and Manchester City to the Premier League title and will take on Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

One of the Arsenal players who is doing well at the moment is Ben White. The former Leeds United loanee is a central defender by trade, but he has been playing at right-back this season.

And, he has been brilliant. The 26-year-old has scored two goals and given four assists in 39 matches in all competitions for Arsenal this season.

However, White has been hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons in recent days. England head coach Gareth Southgate said last week that he has been informed that the Arsenal defender does not want to turn out for the Three Lions.

Leicester City defender Conor Coady comments on Arsenal star Ben White

Conor Coady played with White for England, and the Leicester City defender has raved about the Arsenal star and has said that he is sad at the fact that he is not available for the Three Lions.

Coady said about White on The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live: “When I was in the England squad and he was, he was a great character to have around the place.

“He is a great lad, first and foremost. How he trains, how he goes on about his business, he is top top drawer.”

When asked if he is saddened by the situation, Coady said: “Yeah, because I think he is a phenomenal player. What he is doing at this moment in time with Bukayo Saka down the right-hand side for Arsenal is, I think, incredible, and he deserves to play for his country.”

My View: Ben White should reconsider playing for England

In my opinion, Arsenal defender Ben White should consider his decision not to play for England.

Playing for one’s country is one of the greatest honours one could have, and White could look back on his career with regret if he does not change his mind now.

White has played four times for England so far in his career. He is 26 now. I think that the Arsenal defender will get more caps for the Three Lions if he decides to play for them again.

Yes, there is competition for a place in the England starting lineup. Harry Maguire and John Stones are two main players in central defence. Kyle Walker, Reece James (when fit) and Trent Alexander-Arnold are three quality right-backs.

But, to be even part of an England squad is a great achievement and a great honour.
