Mauricio Pochettino may have his critics at Chelsea, but it can’t be argued that individual players are improving under his stewardship.
Cole Palmer has been rightfully stealing the headlines for quality performance after quality performance following his summer transfer from Manchester City.
But Martin Keown thinks his teammate – Conor Gallagher – is going ‘under the radar’, as he told Football Focus.
The 24-year-old has been a regular starter this season and one of the very few players who have performed consistently well.
With Reece James still having injury issues, it has even resulted in the boyhood Chelsea fan donning the club’s armband and leading his team out.
Conor Gallagher has come a long way in his career because, after a few loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, he is now earning those regular starts he has always craved.
In this modern world of high pressing in football, Martin Keown praised how difficult it is to play against the England midfielder and how he is also a ‘one-man army’ at times.
Conor Gallagher’s performances for Chelsea
“I think Conor Gallagher is another player going under the radar,” said Keown. “He is just like a one-man army. The way he presses. The way he joins the attack.
“But Cole Palmer is naturally better out on that right wing. They have now found that. It seems as though they are naturally finding their best positions. Fernandez as well.
“You have paid £200 million for Caicedo (and Fernandez) as well. A sitting midfielder. It’s an awful lot of money they have spent on these players and it’s about time they started to produce.”

Will Conor Gallagher leave Chelsea?
Something has to give this summer with the player, either he leaves or signs a new deal – his current one expires in 2025.
If Chelsea want to get the maximum transfer fee for the player, then they would need to get rid of him ASAP.
Given that there has been a lack of consistent performers at Chelsea this season, you’d feel they would do everything they can to keep hold of him, especially given that he should be heading to Euro 2024 with England this summer.
But sources have told HITC Football that Chelsea are ready to sell Gallagher.
