Clive Allen has raved about Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as he continues to make do with substitute appearances.
Tottenham were exceptional on Sunday afternoon, hammering Aston Villa 4-0 away from home.
This was a huge game in the race for Champions League qualification and Tottenham stepped up to the occasion.
James Maddison and Brennan Johnson put Tottenham 2-0 up before John McGinn picked up a red card for a nasty foul on Destiny Udogie.
Son Heung-min fired number three before substitute Timo Werner added the cherry on top of the cake, finding a fourth Spurs goal late on.
Clive Allen on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
This was a real team performance from Tottenham as they boosted their hopes of a top-four finish.
Even the substitutes played key roles with Radu Dragusin impressing after coming in for the injured Micky van de Ven.
We also saw Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg come on to help see the game out, something Clive Allen really appreciated.
The Tottenham legend told SPURSPLAY that he now thinks of Hojbjerg as ‘the closer’, coming off the bench to help Spurs get over the line.
There was little danger of Villa mounting a fightback on Sunday but Allen feels that Hojbjerg is just ‘impeccable’ when coming off the bench.

Allen noted that Hojbjerg just understands when to slow the play down and when to speed it up, hailing him as ‘absolutely superb’.
“Hojbjerg again, I describe him as ‘the closer’ now, he’s coming on in games and he’s been impeccable in the way that he’s kept possession of the ball at the right time, he’s drawn a free kick, he’s slowed the game down, he’s sped the game up, he’s been absolutely superb,” said Allen.
This has been a testing season for Hojbjerg, who has only started six Premier League games this term.
The 28-year-old just hasn’t played a key role under Ange Postecoglou and has now made 20 substitute appearances this term.
HITC Football understands that Tottenham were open to letting Hojbjerg leave the club in January and that stance is unlikely to change this summer.
Hojbjerg may well move on at the end of the season but his experience has been valuable off the bench, with both Postecoglou and Allan valuing his input highly.
