- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur before the window closes at the end of January.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has had a mixed time of things at Tottenham Hotspur with the Danish midfielder being entrusted to start vital games, including the draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, but has also been limited to just five starts in the Premier League.
Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and James Maddison, when all fit, have been the midfield three who have been trusted to perform for Ange Postecogou’s men throughout this promising campaign.
As a result, the 28-year-old Danish midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from North London with several clubs understood to be keen.

Spurs’ stance on Hojberg
Due to the injury problems that Spurs have had this campaign, it may well be understandable if the London club were reluctant to lose the former Bayern Munich and Southampton midfielder.
However, this is not the case, with sources confirming that Spurs would be willing to allow Hojbjerg to leave, but they will only sanction his exit if it has a permanent element to it, be it a transfer or a loan with an obligation in the summer.
During this month Juventus, Napoli and Atletico Madrid have all enquired about the 28-year-old, but they were all looking at potential loans – but not with an obligation, which is something that wouldn’t interest Spurs.
Spurs are currently firmly in the race for Champions League football next season if they carry on their good form this campaign and a new midfielder could well be in the offing but only on one condition.
Spurs’ search for a midfielder
HITC Football also understands that Spurs have been looking at potential midfield targets this month but their stance has been that they would not sign a midfielder unless Hojbjerg departed – which going into the last week of the window remains a possibility.
Losing a player of Hojberg’s experience would be a huge blow for the London club as it is his experience in a relatively inexperienced midfield that could prove vital for Spurs.
Instead, a move away from the club is looking to be in the offing this month but with just a week remaining of the transfer window, time is of the essence.
