Dion Dublin has given his verdict on the goal that Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford scored in the first half against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Marcus Rashford was in action for Manchester United away from home against Manchester City on Sunday.

United manager Erik ten Hag deployed the England international forward as the central striker in the Premier League match against City at the Etihad Stadium.

Praise for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford vs Manchester City

The 26-year-old forward put the Red Devils in the lead in the eighth minute. Rashford, who has been hitting the headlines in the build-up to the Manchester derby, found the back of the net with a stunning goal from distance.

Former United player Dion Dublin was following the match, and the BBC Sport pundit was impressed by the goal that Rashford scored.

Dublin said on BBC Sport at half time on Rashford’s goal: “Because the ball has gone from keeper to Bruno Fernandes he has a defender to hold up, he then waits for Rashford to get past the midfield players to take a shot.

“Rashford was running full tilt, he made it look so easy, it’s the perfect strike. Rashford has told the whole world, ‘let me get on with my job’.”

The pundit added when Rashford was taken off in the second half: “Marcus Rashford has been great, he looks a bit tired and it is down to Antony now.”

During his time on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, Rashford took two shots, had a pass accuracy of 66.7%, took 23 touches, and made one interception and two clearances.

Confidence boost for Marcus Rashford

In my opinion, the goal that Marcus Rashford scored for Manchester United against Manchester City will have boosted his confidence.

Rashford is not having the best of seasons, but I think that the England international could still play a big role for Erik ten Hag’s side in the coming weeks and months.

United are not going to win the Premier League title this season, but the Red Devils could still end up in the top four.

For United to get back into the UEFA Champions League, in my view, Rashford will have to score goals like he did against City in the Manchester derby.
