Manchester United want to sign Jarrad Branthwaite, and Ian Wright’s verdict on the Everton central defender will certainly please the Old Trafford faithful.

Arsenal legend and BBC Sport pundit Wright rates Branthwaite highly.

So, what has Ian Wright said about Manchester United target and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite? Let’s take a look.

Ian Wright praises Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite

Well, Ian Wright has been speaking about Jarrad Branthwaite, and the Arsenal legend is a huge fan of the Everton central defender, a player former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher also likes.

The BBC Sport pundit has been hugely impressed by the performances of Branthwaite for Everton this season, and he thinks that the 21-year-old centre-back could be part of the England squad for the European Championship in the summer.

Manchester United are interested in Branthwaite. HITC revealed in January that that United and Real Madrid have been impressed by the Everton defender and are keen on him.

Wright said about Branthwaite on the Wrighty’s House podcast, as transcribed by TBR: “I would like to give flowers to Jarrad Branthwaite. I believe now he will be in the next England squad. He has got everything.

“You watch how he plays, left-sided as well, he plays out well. Very brave. And then when you listen to his interview he sounds like somebody who is like yeah, I’m there, I’m here.

“He should be called up. And not only that, he should be played. Let’s have a look at him. I’m telling you we have a monster on our hands at left-sided centre-half. A monster.”

My View: Jarrad Branthwaite would find Manchester United appealing

In my opinion, Everton central defender Jarrad Branthwaite would find a move to Manchester United hugely appealing.

Yes, Everton are a big and established club in the Premier League, but the Toffees are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Even if Sean Dyche’s side stay up, it is hard to see the Merseyside challenge for the European places in the Premier League table next season.

True, Manchester United are not in a position to win the Premier League or the UEFA Champions League anytime soon, but there is a buzz around Old Trafford after the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

United are arguably the biggest club in England and are aiming to get back to their former glory.

The chance to play for the Red Devils and be part of something special would be a step-up for Branthwaite, and, in my view, would appeal to him.
