Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on Everton central defender and Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite.

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit is a huge fan of Branthwaite.

So, what has Jamie Carragher said about Manchester United target and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite? Let’s take a look.

Praise for Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite

Well, Jamie Carragher has been raving about Jarrad Branthwaite. The former Liverpool defender rates the Everton star highly.

The Sky Sports pundit has said that the 21-year-old is a very special defender and thinks that he could help make sure that Everton do not get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season. Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has also been impressed.

Manchester United are keen on Branthwaite. HITC revealed in January that the Red Devils and Real Madrid have been impressed by the Everton defender and want to sign him.

Carragher said about Branthwaite on Sky Sports Premier League (7:40 pm, February 19, 2024): “I think he is [special]. And what is really special as well is the amount of centre-backs we have in the Premier League aged 21 or younger.

“I remember being a young lad going in myself at Liverpool and it’s an unforgiven position, I had to go to full-back for the next three or four years and then go back to centre-back, so you can see the quality we have.

“Branthwaite has been outstanding, Murillo I think has been outstanding. But I think this lad has been pretty special and he’s a big part of why in my eyes Everton still have a great chance of staying up, him and his partnership with Tarkowski.”

My View: Manchester United could be able to sign Jarrad Branthwaite

In my opinion, Manchester United could be able to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the summer transfer window.

First of all, Everton could be relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. The Toffees are just above the Premier League bottom three at the moment.

Secondly, United are arguably the biggest club in England. Yes, the Red Devils have fallen behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in terms of challenging for the Premier League title on a regular basis, but there is no doubt that they are still a hugely appealing club.

So, leaving Everton for United would be a step-up for Branthwaite, who is only 21 and is just starting his career.

I think that if United made an offer for the England Under-21 international defender in the summer transfer window, then he would be tempted to make the move.
