It’s funny what a week in football can do and how a few wins can change the game for a team because the mood inside Chelsea’s camp is now starting to flip.
After beating Aston Villa in the FA Cup in midweek, Chelsea backed it up by coming from behind to secure a deserved 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Those shouts for Mauricio Pochettino’s head have now been replaced by chants of ‘don’t worry about a thing cause every little thing is going to be alright’.
And midfielder Conor Gallagher played a huge part in that, with Tom Cairney lauding his two ‘fantastic’ efforts against his former club, as he told Premier League Productions (12/02/24 at 10:35 pm).
The Fulham captain shared how he was arriving late in the box like Paul Scholes, a sight Palace fans will be familiar with, unfortunately, for the wrong reasons on Monday night.
Chelsea fans have been crying out for their team to showcase some cutting edge, now that is being produced, it has resulted in all three points.
Not only that, it’s three goals in two games for Conor Gallagher in all competitions, after he failed to score all season long.
Conor Gallagher or Paul Scholes?
“That’s a dream for a number 10,” said Cairney. “Or a Paul Scholes back in the day. Just arriving late, with that much space and that much time.
“I know Gallagher said in his interview that his eyes lit up. They do. All you see is the net. He kept his knee over the ball. It’s a great technique. It’s a fantastic finish.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Gallagher (re Palace’s poor defending), they are two fantastic finishes.”

Chelsea should keep Conor Gallagher
There has been a lot of talk about the 24-year-old’s future and there being a strong chance that he heads for the exit door in the summer.
It would be a huge shame for the club to lose such an asset, regardless of whether FFP states that they have to, because it would be a sale that would come back to bite them in the back.
Chelsea have splashed so much money on players, especially in the middle of the park, yet it’s an academy player who is playing the starring role.
From Fikayo Tomori to Tammy Abraham, the club have made many mistakes when selling academy players before, they don’t want to add Gallagher to that list.
