Many Chelsea fans will be asking. Has Mauricio Pochettino been sacked yet? That defeat to Wolves was morale-sapping of the highest order, and the fans are angry!

From the young stars to the older heads, everyone and everything is struggling in Chelsea colours, including the previously reliable, Thiago Silva.

The 39-year-old started Chelsea’s 4-2 defeat to Wolves at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday, playing alongside Axel Disasi.

The veteran Chelsea defender managed to grab a consolation goal for his side, but it wasn’t enough as boos were heard around Stamford Bridge at the full-time whistle.

Ian Wright admitted that he was ‘very surprised’ Thiago Silva started that game given how well Gary O’Neil sets his team up and Wolves’ threat from set-piece situations, as he told Premier League Productions (05/02/24 at 2:40 pm).

It’s pretty clear that age is catching up on the £110k-a-week Brazil star and he isn’t being aided by the inconsistent mess around him.

Playing in a back four doesn’t help either, with Ian Wright questioning where is the ‘protection’ from Chelsea’s midfield players.

Thiago Silva starting for Chelsea

“I was very surprised he played Thiago Silva,” said Wright.

“When you look at Wolves. Gary O’Neil deserves a lot of credit for how he sets his team up and how meticulous he is with his plan. What they are going to do and they are going to counter-attack with Neto and Cunha.

“Then you have Thiago Silva to run into that, it’s like where is the protection? Then you have a midfield, with what the midfield cost, with Caicedo and Enzo. I don’t know where is the stability. Where is the management of the game through the middle to bring the frontmen in?”

Chelsea’s trip to Villa Park

It’s an FA Cup replay against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Wednesday night and you imagine this could be one of the final straws for Pochettino if he loses again, and heavily!

There are already fans calling for his head and wanting him out. If Chelsea bow out of another domestic competition, then that volume will only increase, even if the League Cup final is around the corner.

Given how Liverpool thumped Chelsea in the Premier League recently, you would expect the Wembley game to be a walk in the park for them.

Either way, wins and wins only is going to aid Pochettino here because Chelsea seem to be getting worse!
