Well, that was ugly for Chelsea. Another game and another heavy defeat for Mauricio Pochettino.

It’s all good getting beat heavily by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are chasing all four trophies this season and are currently the best team in the land.

But to get swatted away like a fly by Wolves is beyond ridiculous, with Gary O’Neil, who took charge days before the new Premier League season started, watching his team score four goals at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

During that 4-2 loss for Chelsea, Ian Wright thinks Moises Caicedo showed two sides to his game, the good and the ugly, as he told Premier League Productions (04/02/24 at 2:55 pm).

The former Arsenal striker praised the former Brighton man for playing a ‘fantastic’ pass that opened the scoring for Chelsea, with Cole Palmer the man to find the back of the net.

The 22-year-old was praised for playing the ball in an ‘absolutely measured’ fashion, but then disaster struck.

It was Moises Caicedo’s mistake, after he was dispossessed in the middle of the park, that led to Wolves’ equaliser.

Ian Wright admitted that there was an element of ‘luck’ to that goal, but he feels it all stemmed from the away side’s high press.

Chelsea suffer heavy defeat to Wolves

“This pass from Caicedo is fantastic,” said Wright. “It was absolutely measured. It was a fantastic pass. That’s what they are capable of doing.

“That’s what he (Pochettino) wants from them. It was nice and sharp. Very clinical.

On Wolves first goal: “Then this is the other side of it with Caicedo. He didn’t have a picture, otherwise, he would know what to do before that ball was coming.

“But then Wolves get the luck and that’s why they are pressing like they are because they want to win the ball in those areas and attack quickly by catching Chelsea off guard.”

Will Chelsea sack Mauricio Pochettino?

Graham Potter must be smiling away with glee somewhere because he took a lot of pelters for a lot less and was sacked for a lot less.

It needs to be noted that at least Pochettino had pre-season to get his work across, for Potter, he was dropped straight into the deep end midway through the season and he couldn’t cope.

Chelsea will travel to Villa Park next Wednesday night for an FA Cup replay against Unai Emery’s men.

If Pochettino isn’t sacked by then, you wouldn’t be surprised if he is out of the door if they lose that fixture.
