New Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has explained the reasoning behind joining the North London side over Barcelona.

HITC had reported that Barcelona were confident of winning the race for Lucas Bergvall who has caused quite a stir in recent months after his performances in the Swedish league.

After the Spanish side had made an offer for the Swedish midfielder, worth in the region of £8 million, HITC reported that the Lilywhites matched this offer for a player who is considered one of the most promising stars in Europe.

Tottenham won the race for the teenager and the Swede has been speaking about why he moved to London.

Bergvall on ‘dream’ move

As per Fabrizio Romano on X, the Swede has explained why he decided to move to the club amid interest from Xavi’s Spanish giants.

“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League, the best league in the world,” he said.

“It feels like the beginning of an era here at Tottenham. There’s a great coach, Ange. It’s a great club, a great manager with a hungry and young team playing really good football”.

“It’s a pure joy for me to be part of this big club”. Bergvall will finish the season with Djurgarden before linking up with Tottenham in the summer.

The Swedish midfielder is the latest young star to move to Spurs with Destiny Udogie and midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, who have both been superb for the London side since they moved to the Premier League, previously joining the clubat a young age.

Snubbing Barcelona surprise

As mentioned, Barcelona believed they had won the race for the talented midfielder starlet but it is Ange Postecoglou’s side who have won the race for the Swede.

Bergvall is the latest signing at Tottenham with Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin through the door in London this month and it is the latest sign that the Australian’s revolution at the Premier League club is continuing.

For Spurs to beat Barcelona to a signing like this is certainly out of the ordinary but this could be a hint at the changing landscape with Premier League clubs often now beating some of Europe’s heavyweights to signings.
