Barcelona want the ‘great player’ Lucas Bergvall but president Joan Laporta believes that Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer they simply cannot match for the London-bound £8.5 million wonderkid.
Lucas Bergvall may not be a Tottenham player yet – at least not officially – but that should change by the close of play on Friday.
HITC Football understands that Spurs have struck a deal to bring one of Scandinavia’s most exciting young talents to North London, The Standard adding that Bergvall may arrive at the training ground today before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.
Barcelona have made no secret of their admiration for the Djurgardens starlet too, with sporting director Deco a big fan. But, given their precarious financial position, the reigning La Liga champions are in no position to slam down an offer greater than the one put forward by Spurs.

“He is a great player, whom Deco has followed for a long time,” president Joan Laporta tells RAC1.
“We made an offer. We had everything agreed with him and the club. (But) Tottenham have made him an offer with much more money.
“Our proposal is to play in the reserve team working with the dynamics of the first team. But we are not going to match Tottenham’s financial offer.”
Another exciting Spurs signing
Bergvall, who celebrated his 18th birthday at the start of this month, has already earned a cap for the senior Sweden side. And he may feel that, under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham may be the ideal destination for him to make good on his obvious potential, the Australian tactician’s free-flowing, forward-thinking approach perfectly suited to a midfielder of Bergvall’s silky skill-set.
Tottenham also signed Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner during the January transfer window. Fellow youngsters Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic have joined too during the Postecoglou era, with Spurs building for the future as well as the present.
