Never write Darwin Nunez off!
The Bournemouth fans leaving the Vitality Stadium today certainly will have egg on their face after chanting ‘You are just a ____ Andy Carroll’ to the Liverpool star.
Whilst Darwin Nunez probably doesn’t have a clue what the home fans were chanting or who Andy Carroll even is.
He certainly punished one of the in-form sides in the Premier League by netting a deserved brace for his free-scoring Liverpool side.
Jermain Defoe stated that ‘everything that he did was really good’, whilst also lauding the ‘relentless’ nature of his game, as he told Premier League Productions (21/01/24 at 6:30 pm).
With Mohamed Salah on Africa Cup of Nations duty, Liverpool needed their forward players to step up and they did just that.
Not only was Darwin Nunez showcasing his worth in the final third, but also Diogo Jota because he scored two goals.
Darwin Nunez helps Liverpool beat Bournemouth
“Especially the second one, that’s a hard finish,” said Defoe. “Just to sort of guide it in the corner on the volley like he did it.
“He is one of those players who just keeps on going. Just relentless in his running. He seemed really confident. He is sharp, at the minute. You always know that he is going to get chances.
“We say that we would like to see him get goals, but today I thought he was, not just the goals, everything that he did was really good.”

Darwin Nunez steps up for Liverpool
When you have players like Salah and Jota in your team, then you can afford to be unpredictable and inconsistent because of their reliability.
But what is interesting to know is how will Nunez perform when that reliability isn’t there?!
Well, without Salah, the Uruguay star proved his worth to help his team open up a five-point lead on second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
With Kevin de Bruyne back, you can bet your bottom dollar that Pep Guardiola and his side are going to push this right until the death.
For Liverpool, they will continue to score goals for fun, it’s just about keeping that defence strong and making sure Salah returns as quickly as possible.
But these first three points without the Egypt star is a very good start to proceedings!
