Tottenham Hotspur talent Ashley Phillips has been praised after making a real impact on his debut for loan club Plymouth Argyle.

Tottenham pounced to snap up defender Ashley Phillips over the summer, finally luring him away from Blackburn Rovers.

Spurs had wanted to sign Phillips in the summer of 2022 but finally landed their man last summer.

There had been rumours surrounding Phillips being quickly promoted into a senior role, but we have yet to see the teenager in first-team action.

Phillips is one for the future and Tottenham have now sent him out on loan, sanctioning a move to Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

Tottenham talent Ashley Phillips praised after Plymouth Argyle display

18-year-old Phillips was handed his Argyle debut on Saturday afternoon, starting away at Huddersfield Town.

Phillips played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw and has been receiving major praise after his performance

Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally certainly loved what he saw whilst covering the Argyle game as part of the Soccer Saturday programme.

McInally suggested that Phillips is ‘going to be a superstar’ having been dazzled by his display in West Yorkshire.

“Ashley Phillips, 18 years old, on loan from Spurs, centre back, the boy’s going to be a superstar,” said McInally.

Argyle’s official Twitter account have also announced that Phillips has been named the Fans’ Player of the Match against Huddersfield, calling him ‘outstanding’ in the process.

It’s only one game, but Phillips made an enormous impact on Saturday and Tottenham will be absolutely delighted.

Phillips already has some Championship action under his belt from his Blackburn days but this loan will hopefully see him play regularly and build some real momentum before heading back to Tottenham.

Phillips has just seen Tottenham sign another centre back in Radu Dragusin, so the competition for places in North London will be fierce for years to come.

The teenager clearly has big potential though and will be looking to prove that he can compete at Premier League level with some strong Championship displays.
