Tottenham Hotspur want Ashley Phillips but Blackburn Rovers still believe that the defender could sign a new deal and stay at Ewood Park.
Tottenham have just secured a young signing for the future by landing Udinese defender Destiny Udogie, before loaning him back to the Italian club.
Fabio Paratici does need to think about talents for the future, and especially homegrown talents.
Spurs have had issues with homegrown numbers of late and have swooped for Djed Spence to try and aid that problem.
More will be needed though and Tottenham seem to have set their sights on another Championship talent.
Tottenham Hotspur want Ashley Phillips
The Daily Mail reported earlier today that Tottenham are set to snap up Blackburn Rovers talent Ashley Phillips.
It was suggested that Paratici was planning to travel to Blackburn’s game against Reading tonight in order to green-light a move for the teenager.
Blackburn have named their team for that game and 17-year-old Phillips is once again starting in the heart of defence.
Paratici may well be at tonight’s game given Reading’s relative proximity to Tottenham, but Blackburn seemingly aren’t expecting a deal.
Lancs Live report that talk of Phillips leaving for Tottenham are premature – and Blackburn actually believe he could stay.
It’s suggested that Phillips could sign a first professional deal soon and talks are planned with his representatives very soon.
There are ‘positive’ noises about Phillips committing his future to Blackburn and particularly Jon Dahl Tomasson, who is a major factor.
That means Tottenham may not be as close to signing Phillips as first thought, with some work for Paratici to do in the coming days and weeks.
Phillips, 17, has been hailed as a ‘mega footballer’ by former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray, and is being backed for a huge future.
Striking a deal similar to Udogie – cash now and a loan back to continue his development – may appeal to all sides, but Blackburn seem to be confident of fending off Tottenham altogether here.
