Goncalo Guedes has agreed to join Villarreal on loan from Wolves for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign, sources have told HITC Football.

The Portugal international has been on loan at Benfica so far this season, although Wolves have now made a rearrangement.

So, what is the latest on Goncalo Guedes at Wolves? Let’s take a look…

Goncalo Guedes latest

Well, HITC Football understand that Wolves have allowed Villarreal to negotiate an option to buy the 27-year-old at the end of the season.

Guedes has largely struggled at Molineux following a £27.5m move from Valencia in August 2022.

The Benavente-born forward scored just twice in 18 appearances for Wolves.

Now – according to sources close to HITC Football – Guedes may have already played his final game for Wolves, as Villarreal can sign him on a permanent basis this summer if he impresses in Spain.

The Portuguese attacker will replace Ben Brereton Diaz at Villarreal.

We exclusively revealed here on HITC Football last week that the Chile international would join Sheffield United on loan, and after that switch materialised, Guedes will replace him at the Estadio de la Ceràmica.

It remains to be seen how much Villarreal would pay for the Wolves loanee in the event of a permanent deal, although anything close to that aforementioned £27.5m would be optimistic given how things went in England for the winger.

Wolves fans must be disappointed

Guedes used to be one of the most exciting young forwards around – he was even compared to Cristiano Ronaldo during his breakthrough years in Portugal.

Therefore, Wolves fans were surely delighted when he arrived in the Midlands, although the move has not worked out whatsoever.

Hopefully, Guedes can show his obvious talent out in Spain, and Wolves end up recouping a respectable portion of that £27.5m sum initially invested in his services.
