Thilo Kehrer now has a ‘total agreement’ to leave West Ham United this month with the Premier League misfit set to return to France with AS Monaco.

After failing to force his way into David Moyes’ plans this season, no longer the first choice right-back and well down the pecking order at centre-half too, West Ham United were always unlikely to stand in Thilo Kehrer’s way when the offers rolled in.

And so it has proved.

According to Foot Mercato, Monaco have fought off competition from Eintracht Frankfurt, and now have a ‘total agreement’ with Kehrer’s camp. The Germany international will move to the Prinicipality on loan for the remainder of the season, and will have an option-to-buy clause in his Monaco contract.

Thilo Kehrer closing in on West Ham exit

Kehrer only joined The Hammers from Paris Saint-Germain a year ago, in a deal worth £10 million. The 27-year-old has struggled to live up to expectations in claret and blue, however, beginning his West Ham career with a series of defensive mistakes and ending it stuck on Moyes’ bench.

Kehrer has played only 19 minutes of Premier League football in 2023/24. Opportunities have been slightly more frequent in the Europa League but, even in that competition, he has struggled to nail down a starting spot.

“Thilo is a brilliant boy who works really hard in training,” Moyes told the club’s official site before December’s night’s 2-0 victory over Freiburg.

“He brings flexibility and he’s hugely important for us with his versatility. (But) it has been tough for him because we have some players who have been performing brilliantly defensively.”

Monaco move imminent

It remains to be seen if West Ham opt to bring in a replacement this month. The Londoners have been linked with Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall and Dan Axel Zagadou, another one-time PSG stopper, after a superb season at high-flying Stuttgart.

Reports suggesting that Zenit St Petersburg ace Robert Renan could end up in the English capital, however, have been roundly dismissed.
