It wasn’t so long ago that Son Heung-min was wondering where his previously devastating form for Tottenham Hotspur had gone.

Just like Spurs as a team last season, the 31-year-old’s form went out of the window and it resulted in him only scoring ten Premier League goals.

But fast forward to the present and Son Heung-min, after only 16 league matches, has already matched his goals tally from the previous campaign.

That included helping Tottenham brush aside Newcastle United on Sunday, with Tim Sherwood claiming that the £22 million signing is a ‘credit to the Premier League’.

The former Spurs boss also added that Son Heung-min would get into ‘any team’ in England’s top-flight, as he told Premier League Productions (10/12/23 at 6:35 pm).

Sometimes, for footballers, the best praise and recognition can come from their fellow professionals and that’s exactly what was delivered to Tottenham’s captain.

Out with an injury, Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy was doing punditry work for the weekend match and he waxed lyrical about Son Heung-min.

That proves that he has many admirers from across English football, no more so than Tim Sherwood.

Son Heung-min – one of the Premier League’s best?

“Even when Harry (Kane) was there, he was magnificent, wasn’t he?!” said Sherwood. “I quite like that he had a dip last season, but he has been able to roll his sleeves up and go again.

“He is enjoying playing under Postecoglou, so are all of them players. Why wouldn’t you?! You are on the front foot, giving you belief and confidence that you can go toe-to-toe with any team in the league.

“What he does best is go past people like they aren’t there. His finishing off both feet. He is a magnificent professional. He is a credit to the football club and a credit to the Premier League.

“This boy could play for any team in the Premier League and I have been saying it for years and years.”

Tottenham without European football

As many are seeing, Ange Postecoglou is deploying a pretty aggressive and all-action style, which is a joy to watch whoever you support.

But what is aiding this Spurs side is the fact that they aren’t playing in Europe, so it allows them to burn more energy during games.

When the second half of the Premier League season kicks in, it will be interesting to see how the Champions League hopefuls perform and exploit the tiredness around them.

You would think it has some sort of advantage, but then again, you watch Chelsea and they are sitting in the Premier League’s bottom half.
