Brentford striker Ivan Toney has told people around him that he would rather sign for Arsenal than Chelsea in 2024.

Arsenal have been given a boost amid claims that Brentford hitman Ivan Toney would choose them over Chelsea.

That is according to London World, who report that Toney has told ‘close friends’ that he would like a move to Arsenal.

Toney is banned right now following gambling breaches but will be able to return to action for Brentford in January.

There have been rumours surrounding a potential January exit for Toney though, with Arsenal and Chelsea keen.

Ivan Toney allegedly prefers Arsenal over Chelsea

London World now claim that Chelsea will not make a January bid for Toney despite their need for a new striker.

That is, in part, because Toney allegedly is ‘not too keen’ on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Instead, Toney is thought to have ‘told close friends’ that he prefers a move to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side.

Chelsea have also been put off by Toney’s age given that they will have to pay a huge fee for a striker who turns 28 in March.

That isn’t ancient by any stretch of the imagination, but Chelsea seemingly feel that they want more longevity if they are going to spend a big fee.

Arsenal may be tempted to sign Toney

Arsenal have been going about their business quietly this season and maybe haven’t been quite as impressive as last season.

Arteta’s attack hasn’t been clicking but Arsenal have continue to grind out results.

Gabriel Jesus hasn’t really been at his best whilst Eddie Nketiah has yet to prove that he can be the long-term answer.

Arsenal may now go and sign an out-and-out goalscorer, somebody can provide a killer instinct in the box.

Toney, hailed as the ‘real deal’ by pundit Clinton Morrison, may just be that man having hit 32 goals in his two Premier League campaigns.

Hearing that Toney fancies Arsenal over Chelsea may just tempt the Gunners into spending, but Brentford could decide to wait until the summer and take the decision out of Toney’s hands.
