Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe is complaining about two problems behind the scenes.

That is according to The Independent reporter Miguel Delaney, who has claimed that Howe is facing two issues at Newcastle now.

So, what is being reported about Newcastle United and manager Eddie Howe?

Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to journalist Miguel Delaney in his Reading the Game newsletter in The Independent (1:32 pm, November 10, 2023), not everything is great at Newcastle United.

The journalist has reported that Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe is “privately” bemoaning about two problems.

Delaney has noted that Newcastle are facing issues in convincing “elite” players to move to the club due to the location.

The Magpies could also face a problem in trying to sign players from PIF-backed clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Delaney wrote: “Eddie Howe is meanwhile having similar concerns after the defeat to Borussia Dortmund, before you even get to rivals scrutinising his club’s transfers.

“The Newcastle United manager feels he needs a lot more numbers, especially if they are to make a proper push for Champions League again, regardless of what happens in this group.

The concerns might be even greater, mind, if they go into the Europa League.

“Howe will seek to strengthen in January but he is known to have already privately bemoaned one new problem and one long-term one.

“Newcastle have been restricted in their spending by Financial Fair Play rules but that is compounded by another issue.

“They’re finding it difficult to get that elite bracket of players to come to the north east, a complication that goes back to the 90s and 2000s.

“The club would have to pay above wage demands to get targets up, in what was known as ‘the Newcastle premium’. Cases in point were Michael Owen and Kieron Dyer.

“Ruben Neves is obviously an option as a potential loan from Al Hilal but, since they are also owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, rivals are concerned about potential advantages.

“The next Premier League shareholders meeting, on 21 November, is likely to see a fast-tracked vote to ban loans from teams under the same ownership.

“It would need 14 of the 20 clubs to go in favour, but then nine are currently part of multi-club models.”

Newcastle United need to back Eddie Howe in January

In my opinion, Newcastle United simply have to support manager Eddie Howe in the January transfer window.

Newcastle need to find a replacement for the banned Sandro Tonali.

The Magpies simply cannot afford not to fill the void left by midfielder Tonali.

Of course, Newcastle need to work under FFP regulations, but I think that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have to find a way to sign the players that Howe needs and want.

Liverpool are doing extremely well, and Chelsea are also starting to get their form back.

It would be hard for Newcastle to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

I believe that Howe needs backing in January.
