Tottenham Hotspur medical staff are now fearing the worst with Micky van de Ven potentially needing surgery on his hamstring injury.

Micky van de Ven could face months on the sidelines after his injury against Chelsea on Monday night.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that the Tottenham Hotspur defender is set for a scan on his hamstring.

Amidst all the chaos of Chelsea’s 4-1 win at Tottenham, Van de Ven’s injury was possibly the biggest blow for Spurs.

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off and James Maddison picked up a knock, but Van de Ven looks set to miss the most time.

Tottenham medical staff worried about Micky van de Ven

Van de Ven pulled up with a hamstring problem whilst sprinting back to try and prevent a Chelsea attack.

The Dutchman was immediately substituted and Tottenham now face being without him for a while.

Reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Spurs are fearing Van de Ven will be on the sidelines for ‘months’ now.

It’s stated that Tottenham’s medical staff are ‘concerned’ that Van de Ven may need surgery on this hamstring issue.

Anything more than a grade-two tear will see Van de Ven miss the rest of 2023 and a number of games in 2024.

That seems to be the worst-case scenario but it’s clear that Tottenham are pretty worried about his potential absence.

Tottenham may need to land another left-footed defender

Ben Davies could fill in for Van de Ven when fit again but he isn’t a natural centre back in a four-man defence.

Van de Ven is so important to Ange Postecoglou’s style because of his pace and ability on the ball, as well as balance as a left-footer.

Tottenham may well need to invest in another option come January with Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly a key target.

Kelly certainly makes sense for Tottenham, ticking many of the same boxes as Van de Ven whilst being a homegrown player.

Add in that Kelly is out of contract in the summer and he makes perfect sense for Tottenham – no matter how long Van de Ven faces on the sidelines.
