Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta worked with Douglas Luiz when he was a coach at Manchester City, and he is reportedly keen on bringing the Aston Villa midfielder to the Emirates Stadium.
According to 90min, Arsenal are interested in signing Douglas Luiz from Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the January transfer window.
Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to sign Douglas Luiz
The Gunners have long admired Luiz and tried to sign the Brazil international midfielder in the summer of 2022.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Sporting Director Edu Gaspar are both “huge admirers of Luiz”, according to the report.
90min has added that Arteta worked with Luiz when he was an assistant coach at Manchester City and is keen for Arsenal to do a deal for Luiz in the middle of the season.
Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this campaign.

Villa, though, reportedly do not want to sell the Brazilian star in the January transfer window, and the player himself is “committed” to the club.
The Villans signed Luiz from Manchester City in the summer of 2019 for £15 million (Sky Sports).
The Brazilian could not play for City due to work permit issues.
City manager Pep Guardiola, though, rates the Brazilian star highly.
Football.London has previously quoted the former Barcelona boss as saying that Luiz is “a guy who’s clever with the ball” and is “physically strong”.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson recently said that Luiz is underrated.
My View: Arsenal need to wait until 2024 summer
I do not think that Aston Villa will sell any of their best players in the middle of the season.
Douglas Luiz is one of the most important players in manager Unai Emery’s team.
Villa will challenge for the UEFA Champions League places in the Premier League table this season.
So, why would Villa sell the Brazilian in the January transfer window?
Yes, all players have their price, but Villa are a big and established club in the Premier League who are well-run and are not in desperate need of money.
