PSV Eindhoven have been warned off making a move for Davinson Sanchez as the Tottenham Hotspur and Premier League benchwarmer simply makes too many ‘mistakes’.

During Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge of the London giants in pre-season, the long-serving Colombian offered a particularly ill-timed reminder as to why he has found game time increasingly hard to come by in Tottenham colours.

Davinson Sanchez switched off at the crucial moment as Gianluca Scamacca raced through to slot home the winner for West Ham United. The sort of costly lapse in concentration that has become Sanchez’s unfortunate trademark since joining Spurs from Ajax for a then-club record fee of £42 million back in 2017.

Eindhoven Dagblad believe that a return to the Netherlands may now be on the cards for Sanchez, with PSV interested. But former Phillips Stadium coach Aad de Mos has his doubts about a player who has started only eight Premier League games since the start of last season.

Davinson Sanchez could still leave Tottenham Hotspur

“I think Sanchez is a bit of a ‘ghost driver’,” says De Mos quips, speaking to ED. “He is always good for a mistake. That was the case with Ajax and also with Tottenham. He has not been able to earn a permanent (starting) place there.

“The market is full of good defenders. Top players are walking around in Argentina and Brazil where you can also get a deposit (and sign them for cheap). You don’t get a deposit for Sanchez.

“PSV should not do that (sign him).”

Sanchez did impress when standing in for the concussed Cristian Romero against Brentford on the opening weekend but has not featured since under Postecoglou.

Tottenham, tellingly, accepted a £13 million bid from Spartak Moscow earlier in the summer, before a proposed move to the Russian capital fell through for personal reasons.
