Davinson Sanchez’s move to Russian Premier League outfit Spartak Moscow is no longer on the cards after the Tottenham Hotspur and defender performed a U-turn on his future, according to the Colombian’s agent.

Not only that, the £42 million signing from Ajax might have quite the role to play under Ange Postecoglou too.

Davinson Sanchez rose from the bench with only a few minutes on the clock during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw at Brentford on the opening weekend, and did little to suggest that he was a man on borrowed time in North London.

Sanchez, booed by his own supporters during the nadir of the Antonio Conte era only a few months ago, could yet be a useful member of Postecoglou’s backline; bringing genuine pace to the table and thus allowing a more proactive Spurs side to push higher up the pitch.

Davinson Sanchez may have Tottenham future

Tottenham, per the Evening Standard, accepted a £13 million bid from Spartak Moscow for the long-serving Sanchez at the end of June.

But, after the defender turned down the move due to personal reasons, Sanchez’s representative has now officially closed the door on the Colombian’s very own mission to Moscow.

“Is it still possible to sell Sanchez to Spartak? No,” Fernando Shena tells Sport24

With Sanchez’s contract expiring in 2024, however, a decision will still need to be made. Spurs will not want to lose the 27-year-old for free. But, still, one largely impressive performance against Brentford is not enough to base a new contract offer upon.

Tottenham could also retain both Ivan Perisic and Gio lo Celso beyond the September deadline. Postecoglou appears determined to keep the former despite very public interest from Perisic’s former employers Hajduk Split, while Lazio have ruled out bringing Lo Celso to Rome.

“I was prepared to open talks with Man United and bid for Fred. But (Lazio coach) Maurizio Sarri told me no. He doesn’t want Fred,” Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito said.

“He did the same with Lo Celso.”
