Gary Lineker has tipped Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton and Hove Albion to replace the departed Harry Kane.

The Match of the Day host labelled Evan Ferguson as a ‘born goalscorer’ on Twitter after he netted during his side’s opening day win over Luton Town.

The 18-year-old came off the bench and scored in stoppage-time to round off a comfortable 4-1 win for his Europa League side and Lineker thinks he could be Harry Kane’s replacement.

In terms of strikers, Tottenham have signed highly-rated Argentine striker Alejo Veliz, but this is his first trek into European football, so don’t expect him to be thrown straight into the deep end by Ange Postecoglou.

First and foremost, those currently at the club will have to chip in and spread the goals around – but Glenn Hoddle has raised his doubts about Richarlison.

Then Spurs can perhaps scout the market, before it slams shut in September, for a well-known striker to try and fill that Kane void, as Lineker is backing Ferguson to be that guy.

“Evan Ferguson scores in Fergie time,” said Lineker.

“He’s a born goalscorer. If I was in charge of recruitment at @SpursOfficial I’d take a punt on him as Kane’s replacement. Apologies to @OfficialBHAFC fans”

Ferguson will hit 20+ Premier League goals

It won’t come yet, but the teenager is showing very encouraging signs that he is going to absolutely cook on England’s biggest stage.

There’s no doubt that the Republic of Ireland international will get that move to a Champions League club, that’s if Brighton don’t get there first.

But Tottenham can rule themselves out because, going by what Brighton are asking for Moises Caicedo, then you can imagine the huge transfer fee that will be on Ferguson’s head.

And Daniel Levy couldn’t even spend in an ambitious manner to try to help Kane win a trophy at Spurs, so does anyone really think he will put down record amounts for Ferguson?! Not a chance.
