Tottenham Hotspur have brought a ‘phenomenon’ to the Premier League after signing Alejo Veliz in a £13 million deal from Rosario Central.

Harry Kane’s mega-money switch to Bayern Munich means there is suddenly a colossal hole in the centre of Ange Postecoglou’s frontline.

And while it may be a little premature to expect Alejo Veliz to fill it – the 19-year-old is far from the finished article and is likely to be introduced slowly into his new surroundings – there can be no doubting that a now-Kane-less Tottenham Hotspur have a centre-forward with huge potential in their ranks.

Veliz scored 11 goals in 22 starts for Rosario Central this season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, fought off competition from the likes of AC Milan, with one former Argentina international believing that the £13 million fee Spurs paid could end up looking like a bargain.

“Congratulations to Tottenham, who took Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central,” Daniel Bertoni, a World Cup winner in 1978, tells Tuttomercatoweb.

“For me, (Veliz is) a phenomenon.”

A rangy, 6ft 1ins centre-forward who comes alive in the penalty area; Veliz is unlikely to be Tottenham’s only striker signing of the current window. Spurs are also looking at the likes of Elye Wahi and Gift Orban with Kane now officially unveiled as Bayern Munich’s new number nine.

“With young Veliz, he’s one we identified. He’s got a lot of talent for a youngster,” Postecoglou tells Football London of his new signing. “He’s got a great profile. He is a big guy but he’s very mobile and he works hard.

“He’s already made an impact in the Argentine first division and again good to have him in.”

Veliz joined on the same day as Spurs confirmed Micky van de Ven’s move from Wolfsburg. James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Ashley Phillips and Manor Solomon are the other new faces in a much-altered squad.
