Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters has labelled Declan Rice a ‘legend’ after his transfer to Arsenal from West Ham United was confirmed.
The 24-year-old, who leaves the London Stadium after winning the Europa Conference League, is now Arsenal’s club-record transfer and the second most expensive English player of all time after Jude Bellingham.
The majority of fans and players reacting to Declan Rice’s move have been pretty positive and complementary towards the midfielder and Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters is no different.
The versatile defender, who has come through Tottenham’s academy, told Rice ‘all the best’ on Instagram as he begins a new chapter in his career.
There were even surprise rumours that Arsenal were looking at Walker-Peters himself, but that’s not the case now, especially with Jurrien Timber signing on the dotted line alongside Rice.
Nonetheless, on top of KWP’s comment, Highbury legend Ian Wright posted several heart emojis in the comments section of Rice’s IG post after his move was confirmed.
Rice is now in the big pond
Over the years, Rice could have had a few quiet games and got away with it, but not now.
Not only is he in the spotlight of trying to help Arsenal to the Premier League title, but there is also the small matter of that price tag on his head – but that hasn’t stopped his England teammate Luke Shaw from calling him ‘world class’.
The Englishman will find that the noise around him, whether good or bad, will be overhyped and there will be a lot of overreaction, so he has to be prepared for it all.
