Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez is a target for Spartak Moscow and former Premier League winner Andrei Kanchelskis believes the Colombian could be an inspired addition at around £13 million.

After starting only eight league games during a dreadful 2022/23 campaign – Davinson Sanchez‘s annus horribilis epitomised as he was booed off by his own supporters following that 3-2 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth – a parting of the ways feels like the best-case scenario this summer.

Especially with just 12 months left on the former Ajax youngster’s Tottenham Hotspur contract.

It remains to be seen, having turned 27 last month, whether Spurs’ £42 million benchwarmer would really consider moving to Russia in what is supposed to be the prime of his professional career; Spartak Moscow’s interest confirmed by one of Sanchez’s representatives.

But if Tottenham are willing to accept around £13 million, this may be an opportunity too good to miss for a Spartak side who finished 16 points adrift of RPL champions Zenit St Petersburg last season.

Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez could move to Russia

“If the red-and-whites want to compete with Zenit, then they need such a player,” Kanchelskis, the former Manchester United, Everton and Rangers winger, tells Sport Express

“Is it worth paying 15 million euros for him? If Spartak has the money, let them pay. If they want him, let them sign him.”

Sanchez could be replaced at Spurs by Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo (FootMercato).

The one-time Man City youngster is also due to become a free-agent in 2024, with talks between Tottenham and London neighbours Fulham expected to begin imminently. Adarabioyo could be reunited at Spurs with former Craven Cottage team-mate Manor Solomon too.

Former Spartak defender Evgeny Bushmanov, meanwhile, believes Sanchez is a must for a team currently one centre-half short.

“I don’t know how realistic such a transfer is in the current conditions. But Spartak absolutely needs a new central defender,” Bushmanov tells RB Sport.

“The arrival of Sanchez will allow Spartak to get closer to Zenit. This is a ‘status’ player. These (signings) are what the club needs to compete with Sergei Semak’s (Zenit) team.”
