Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon admits he has ‘doubts’ about whether Kyogo Furuhashi could make the Premier League grade amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

Not all footballer is created equal, of course. But Odsonne Edouard’s struggles at Selhurst Park serve to only highlight the chasm in quality between the Scottish Premiership and the English Premier League.

Prolific at Celtic, Edouard has scored only 11 goals in 63 top-flight games for Crystal Palace.

Could the man who took his place at Parkhead far much better? The Sun reports that Ange Postecoglou could look to bring the talismanic Kyogo Furuhashi with him to Tottenham Hotspur, the £20 million-rated Japan international scoring 34 goals in all competitions as Celtic secured a fifth domestic treble in eight seasons in 2022/23.

Lennon, however, fears that we could be looking at another Edouard situation if Kyogo was tasked with filling a Harry Kane-shaped void in Spurs’ attack, the wantaway England international reportedly agreeing terms with Bayern Munich (Christian Falk).

Kyogo Furuhashi linked with Postecoglou reunion at Tottenham?

“I have my doubts,” Lennon, who left Celtic four months before Kyogo’s arrival in 2021, tells the Daily Mail. “I don’t think for one minute that he could replace Harry Kane, for example, if that was to be the case.

“He’s a good player. I like his style. I’m just not sure he could play consistently at the highest level in the Premier League on a week-to-week basis.

“The other thing is that you’ve got Kane there at the minute, you’ve got (Heung-Min) Son, (Dejan) Kulusevski, Richarlison.

“These are world-class players that he’d need to break into if he goes to Spurs. I think he could play in the Premier League. But maybe just not at the top end at the minute.”

Kyogo played down reports linking him with a Postecoglou reunion this week. The former Vissel Kobe star remains focused on his current employers for the time being.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have completed the signings of James Maddison and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for a combined fee of nearly £60 million, the duo arriving from Leicester City and Empoli respectively.
