Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been linked with Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool are interested in signing James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Liverpool are willing to pay £25 million in transfer fees for Ward-Prowse.

However, the Saints want £50 million for the 28-year-old England international midfielder, according to the report.

Newcastle United and West Ham United are also claimed to be keen on Ward-Prowse, described as a “gifted midfielder” by former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks on BBC Sport in February 2022.

The Daily Mail have added that Liverpool are prepared to play the waiting game regarding the midfielder and are in no rush to make a bid.

What should Liverpool do about Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse?

In our view, Liverpool should not rush into making a bid for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

We do not think that the 28-year-old is worth £50 million.

Yes, the Englishman is a very good midfielder, but he was playing in a Southampton team who got relegated from the Premier League.

That Ward-Prowse is still at the Saints at the age of 28 suggests that he is not ‘world class’.

If he were, then he would have been playing for a bigger club by now.

Now, of course, Southampton will try to get as much money as they can for Ward-Prowse, and it is likely that Liverpool would have to pay more than the £25 million they are willing to cough up for him.

But, we do not think that Liverpool should pay £50 million for the midfielder, who has scored 49 goals and created 56 big chances in 343 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
