Tottenham Hotspur starlet Romaine Mundle is leaving the Premier League outfit but appears to be suffering cold feet regarding a potential switch to Standard Liege.

That is according to Le Soir; Standard’s hopes of luring the fresh-faced winger to Belgium hitting an unexpected obstacle at the eleventh hour.

20-year-old Romaine Mundle will become a free-agent next month, turning down the chance to extend his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The winger appeared to be on the verge of joining Standard Liege alongside Everton midfielder Isaac Price, having been present at the club’s Maurice Dufrasne Stadium for the recent Jupiler League clash with KV Westerlo.

But late interest from the Eredivisie is complicating matters.

Is Romaine Mundle now leaving Tottenham for Holland?

Mundle now has an offer on the table from FC Utrecht. And, as Le Soir point out, he is currently leaning towards a move to the Netherlands instead.

Utrecht finished seventh in the Dutch top-flight this term, ensuring qualification for the European play-offs. Michael Silberbauer’s team are in the market for attacking reinforcements with a number of players out of contract. What’s more, both Taylor Booth and Anastosios Douvikas – the Eredivisie’s joint-top scorer – attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United and Rangers.

Mundle, meanwhile, could follow in the footsteps of another former Spurs starlet if he moves to the Cathedral city of Utrecht.

PSV Eindhoven snapped up Noni Madueke when he too opted to fly the North London nest, the England U21 international earning himself a £29 million move to Chelsea after some truly scintillating displays in red and white stripes.

“Not everyone in England could believe Noni was going to play for us, but it happened anyway,” Rini di Groot, PSV’s head of youth scouting, said back in 2020.

“We all noticed very quickly that Noni was talented. We invited (Madueke and his dad) to see our training in Eindhoven.

“His father was genuinely convinced his son would be less likely to play in the Premier League. (That) could therefore inhibit in his development. That happens to youngsters in England.”

Mundle may know how Madueke felt. Despite the poor form of Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-Min Son, Mundle did not make a single first-team appearance for Spurs in 2022/23.
