Aston Villa are now set to make Arsenal an imminent offer for the transfer of Kieran Tierney. The Newcastle United target has also told Mikel Arteta that he wants to go.

That is according to The Northern Echo, which reports that Tierney spoke with Arteta after Arsenal’s final game of the season. They sought to discuss the 25-year-old’s future in north London after he fell out of favour following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.

Tierney outlined to Arteta during the meeting his desire to leave Arsenal in search of more regular game time. He only started in six Premier League fixtures during the 2022/23 term. Arteta gave the Scotland star 21 further outings from the bench for a total of 776 minutes.

Aston Villa are set to make Arsenal an offer for Kieran Tierney

Aston Villa and Newcastle are set to compete for Tierney’s transfer with both clubs keen on the Arsenal defender. The Magpies are also aware of the left-back’s frustrations at his lack of games this term. But the Villans are now planning to make the Gunners an offer imminently.

Villa Park boss Unai Emery views the Birmingham outfit signing a new left-back as a priority for this summer. So, Aston Villa intend to send Arsenal their opening bid for Tierney before the transfer window officially opens. The market will commence from Wednesday, June 14.

Newcastle would prefer to avoid a bidding war and are willing to meet Arsenal’s demands for Tierney’s transfer. But Emery is also striving to secure the defender’s services again. He was Arsenal’s head coach when they paid Celtic a Scottish-record £25m to sign Tierney in 2019.

Newcastle could frustrate Unai Emery’s transfer desires

Eddie Howe securing Newcastle a return to the Champions League for next season should now help the Magpies combat Aston Villa’s interest in Tierney’s transfer from Arsenal. But Football Transfers has claimed that the Toon and Gunners have different valuations of him.

It reported in May that Arsenal want £35m for Tierney but Newcastle are only aiming to offer £18m. Such a large discrepancy could be music to Emery’s ears with Aston Villa lining up an opening offer. The Villans also seem more willing to seal a deal by bidding before June 14.
