Premier League newcomers Burnley have missed out on former Ajax starlet Sontje Hansen while Bundesliga defender Paulo Otavio does not appear to be on his way to Turf Moor either.
On Wednesday afternoon, Burnley fans got their wish. Jordan Beyer’s loan deal turning into a permanent transfer.
The Borussia Monchengladbach defender was a huge part of Vincent Kompany’s title winning team. And his full-time return to Lancashire is an early boost for a manager hoping to mark his new five-year deal with an impressive return to the top-flight.

Who will join Jordan Beyer at Burnley?
Beyer will not be joined at Burnley, however, by a 20-year-old forward. One who rose through the ranks at Ajax’s esteemed academy. Hansen signed for Eredivisie surprise packages NEC Nijmegen this week instead.
“A great talent at Ajax,” explains technical director Carlos Aalbers. “And we are very happy that he chose us.
“With his speed, technique and goal orientation, we see him as a valuable addition to our selection. It is nice that we were able to act quickly. Sontje joins the squad immediately at the start of the new season. We look forward to a great collaboration!”
Hansen, who can play anywhere across the frontline, may have been seen by Burnley as a replacement for top scorer Nathan Tella.
Tella will return to parent club Southampton. As will Ian Maatsen, another loanee who shone under Kompany across 2022/23. UOL say that Paulo Otavio – who is leaving Wolfsburg when his contract expires in July – was a potential successor for the Chelsea-owned left-back.
Otavio, UOL add, is on his way to Qatar instead.
Al-Sadd are closing on a deal which will see the 28-year-old Brazilian arrive in the Middle East. Otavio, the report adds, has chosen the Qatari outfit over Burnley, Real Mallorca and CSKA Moscow, among others.
