Burnley may have to pay around £10 million for Jordan Beyer with the Borussia Monchengladbach loanee looking forward to Premier League action under Vincent Kompany, according to BILD

Everything about The Clarets, from the pitch to the dugout, disproves the notion that – to succeed in the Championship – you must fill your dressing room with those who, ahem, ‘know the league’.

Kompany’s only managerial experience, before replacing his polar opposite Sean Dyche, had come in Belgium. Manuel Benson, Anass Zaroury and Vitinho had never before set foot on UK soil either. And you can say the same of Beyer; the Germany U21 international who arrived on a short-term deal from Bundesliga giants Gladbach late last summer.

Beyer, like Benson, Zaroury and co, has played a key role in Burnley’s emergence as one of the greatest, most eye-catching teams ever to grace the Championship stage. Reading’s record points haul of 106 is still within reach.

And, with The Sun reporting that Beyer is ‘desperate’ to stick around and be part of Burnley’s Premier League journey, it would be a surprise if the 22-year-old centre-half was not still earning his trade in Lancashire come September.

Burnley could sign Jordan Beyer permanently this summer

Burnley, BILD add, have an option-to-buy clause in Beyer’s contract. One in the region of £10 million. Presuming it will be triggered, Beyer should become Burnley’s first eight-digit signing since a certain Wout Weghorst – now a Carabao Cup winner with Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United – some 18 months prior.

“I can just say I am really happy here,” Beyer tells the Burnley Express. “I love being here and working with the team and the staff.

“It is not only my decision what happens in the summer. I also have to say I have played for my club in Germany for a long time, since the youth (team). So I love that club too. But I really, really like it here too.”

Gladbach director Roland Virkus, however, is open to Beyer returning to Borussia Park.

“We have a good defence with good back-ups,” Virkus explains. “When he played, he usually did well. (But) he was often injured. Jordan needed more toughness, so the Championship with over 40 games is perfect.

“I know Burnley manager Vincent Kompany quite well. So, it’s a win-win situation. He’s playing brilliantly, and Burnley are probably going up.

“I would be happy if he comes back to Gladbach as a more experienced player. And if Burnley possibly want to sign him permanently, then we have to talk if necessary.”

“We’d be happy if he returns. But it’s not always about what we want,” Virkus adds. “(If we sell him), we would be happy to have coached a Premier League player. Our tears would be dried by a transfer fee.”
