Lovro Majer ‘could leave’ Rennes this summer with Premier League trio Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool keen on the Croatia international, according to agent Claudio Vigorelli.

Majer has often been labelled the ‘new Luka Modric’ back home. The only problem is, the original article remains very much present in the heart of Croatia’s midfield.

The Real Madrid star’s evergreen talents, Vigorelli adds, are the main reason why Majer has played only 20 times for his country, restricted to a backseat role during the third-place finish at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

“His misfortune is that, in the national team, he plays the same role as a sacred monster like Luka Modric,” Vigorelli tells Relevo, pointing out that the 37-year-old’s continued presence is a double-edged sword as far as Majer is concerned.

“(Modric) improves with each passing year.

“Bad luck or good fortune, depending on your point of view. Surely having a sacred monster like this in front of you helps you improving.”

Is Lovro Majer on his way to Tottenham, Arsenal or Liverpool?

A big-money move to one of Europe’s bonafide big hitters, in theory, would do Majer’s international prospects no harm. The Daily Mail believe that Tottenham – who handed Modric his big break back in 2008 – have been keeping a close eye on another stylish attacking midfielder who made his name at Dinamo Zagreb while watching the loaned-out Djed Spence at Rennes.

Arsenal and Liverpool, however, are reportedly taking a ‘greater interest’. And Vigorelli, while confirming Atletico Madrid’s admiration for the ‘extraordinary’ 25-year-old, admits that Rennes could cash in this time.

They rejected a number of approaches during the summer of 2022.

“During the last summer market, Atletico Madrid were very interested in him,” the agend adds. “Rennes had no need to sell him. Either because we were close to the end of the market. Or because he’s a very important player for the club.

“There was not only Atletico, but also two or three other very important clubs at a European level. Rennes, in the end, wanted to give him a signal by offering him (a contract) renewal.

“Let’s see what happens in the future. If the conditions are met for all parties, anything can happen. He could even leave. Why not?”

Majer scored 11 goals and set up 13 more last season.
