Lovro Majer is ‘ready’ for a big move as Premier League giants Arsenal eye up Croatia’s World Cup semi-finalist, agent Marco Busiello tells Tuttomercatoweb while suggesting that the bidding must start at £35 million.

From his poise, his passing range and right down to those shoulder length blonde locks; Luka Modric’s shoes will take some filling but Majer looks more qualified than most to step into such a void.

Like the five-time Champions League winner, Majer also rose through the ranks at Dinamo Zagreb, with that ‘new Modric’ moniker following him throughout his still-young career.

And Majer’s agent cannot see any reason why the Rennes playmaker, 13 years Modric’s junior, cannot pick up the baton if his legendary compatriot blows the whistle on a superb international career following Croatia’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina.

“Lovro is destined to take on Modric’s legacy,” says Busiello; indicating that the time is right for a further step up the footballing ladder.

“In France, with the Rennes shirt, he is doing very well. I think he’s now ready for a further leap in quality. Not (in January), because clubs hardly do without such important players in January.

“But then the transfer market is unpredictable. A year ago, Juventus bought (Dusan) Vlahovic for 70 million euros. Who would have thought that?”

According to The Mirror, Arsenal sent scouts to watch the one-time Leeds United and Celtic target during Croatia’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League victory over Denmark in September. As luck would have it, the stylish Majer came off the bench to score the winner.

Busiello believes Rennes will now demand a sizeable fee, just two years after stumping up £10 million to take Majer away from Dinamo Zagreb.

“He has many admirers in Italy,” the agent adds. “He’s a player of significant value. I don’t think Rennes will accept offers of less than 35 to 40 million euros. (Interest) also came from England. We’ll see.

“Given his style of play, La Liga and the Bundesliga are probably the ideal leagues to make a further leap forward.”
