Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have both been linked with Mauricio Pochettino over the past few weeks.

A number of Spurs players, as well as plenty of fans, seem eager to bring the Argentine back to N17.

However, Chelsea are also looking for a new permanent manager beyond the end of the season.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Pochettino amid links with Tottenham and the Blues.

The transfer insider took to Twitter to say Chelsea have contacted the 51-year-old “in the last few days”.

It’s fairly big news, as it was their “first direct approach” since he was on their wish-list last summer.

However, it’s not necessarily all bad news for Tottenham fans who want Pochettino back.

Romano stressed that it’s “nothing advanced yet”, with Julian Nagelsmann still the favourite.

Talks will continue, with Chelsea wanting to really do their due diligence ahead of an appointment.

Romano corroborated a report from The Times on the subject.

They also reported that Chelsea had made contact with the Argentinian, who remains out of work following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

Our view

Chelsea have been a major thorn in the side of numerous Premier League rivals this year.

They went all out in the January transfer window and will likely be busy in the summer window too.

Tottenham and Chelsea seem to be in direct competition for a number of head coaches too.

No doubt there would be a lot of upset Spurs fans if Pochettino were to join their London rivals.

If Daniel Levy has even a slight interest in bringing the popular manager back, he needs to act right away.

After all, Pochettino is “one of the best managers, if not the best manager in the world”. This is in Andros Townsend’s words.
