Wolves striker Fabio Silva ‘would like to stay’ at PSV Eindhoven rather than return to the Premier League outfit during the summer transfer window.

Can you blame him, really? Silva would after all, return to Molineux under pressure to win over Julen Lopetegui, the manager Wolverhampton Wanderers hired to replace Bruno Lage four months after the former Porto starlet departed on loan to Anderlecht. Back to square one.

What’s more, Silva is playing regular first-team football away from the Black Country. He joined PSV in January after an impressive half-season across the border. And, in six starts, Silva has scored five goals in Dutch football, relishing the opportunity to hone his talents under one of the 21st century’s finest finishers in Ruud van Nistelrooy.

And Silva, who has struck up an excellent partnership with ex-Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid Xavi Simons, appears to have little interest in fighting for a place at back at his parent club next term.

“I don’t know yet what will happen next season,” Silva tells Voetbal Primeur. “I’m enjoying every moment at PSV, and I feel valued. I would like to stay here.

“After this season, it will be time to talk about it.”

Will Fabio Silva return to Wolves?

Wolverhampton Wanderers paid a club record £35 million to sign 18-year-old Silva back in 2020. The plan was for the teenager to adapt to life in England with the club’s second string but that horror injury to Raul Jimenez saw him thrown in at the deep end instead.

It’s easy to forget, given how much Silva has already seen in his short career, that he doesn’t even turn 21 until later this year.

In all competitions during spells at PSV and Anderlecht, he now has 16 goals across 2022/23. Clearly, Silva is benefitting from regular first-team football in a less high-pressure environment.

And Van Nistelrooy is making no secret of his desire to keep Silva for at least another 12 months.

“It was already the intention; I wanted to sign Silva for longer from the start,” says the former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Netherlands frontman. “Hopefully it will work out, but it remains to be seen.”
