PSV Eindhoven coach Ruud van Nistelrooy hopes to sign Fabio Silva on a longer-term deal with the Premier League starlet impressing since leaving Wolves on loan, speaking to ESPN

If Silva hopes to build on the potential that saw Wolverhampton Wanderers invest £35 million in his talents a couple of years ago, then he might just be in the right place. Not only is the Eredivisie a league renowned for it’s rather flimsy approach to defending. At PSV, Silva is also honing his talents under one of the finest goalscorers of the 21st century; a man who scored 150 goals in just 219 games at Manchester United.

“The manager (Van Nistelrooy) was one of the best strikers in the world,” Silva said back in January. “I am young and now I get a chance to work with him. I’m also a striker, so I’m happy to learn a lot from him. Great! I’m here to listen.

“This is fantastic, unique and something special.”

Will Wolves’ Fabio Silva stay at PSV Eindhoven?

Silva arrived in January after a hit-and-miss loan spell across the Belgian border with Anderlecht. So far, the 20-year-old has four goals and one assist in four starts for PSV. And Van Nistelrooy admits that he would relish the chance to keep Silva at the Philips Stadium beyond this summer, even if a permanent deal is likely to be a little rich for PSV’s blood.

“It was already the intention. I wanted to sign Silva for longer from the start,” says the former Real Madrid, Netherlands and Hamburg frontman. “Hopefully it will work out, but it remains to be seen.”

In all competitions this season, Silva now has 15 goals for Anderlecht and PSV. An impressive tally for one still so young; the Portuguese poacher doing his hopes of a fresh start at Wolves no harm at all. Raul Jimenez has been in much better form of late, showing signs of that pre-injury brilliance. But goals remain in very short supply for Julen Lopetegui’s ever-profligate frontline.

Van Nistelrooy’s hopes of retaining Silva for another year, then, will depend on whether Wolves see Silva as an immediate solution to that long-standing problem in the final-third.
