Bukayo Saka says Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison produced an ‘amazing’ performance during England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine.

The Leicester City playmaker started his first game for his country on Sunday as Gareth Southgate’s England made it two wins from two on their road to qualifying for Euro 2024.

Arsenal’s thriving star on the right felt that James Maddison ‘deserved’ to get on the scoresheet given his and the team’s strong showing at Wembley.

Whilst Maddison didn’t find the back of the net, the two stars of the show were Tottenham hitman Harry Kane and Arsenal’s Hale-End star, Bukayo Saka.

The duo combined for a brilliantly-worked opening, before Saka’s scored a stunning curling effort moments later – Gary Lineker praised both players, including calling Saka a ‘wonderfully gifted footballer’.

Nonetheless, Saka praised the team’s display, including giving Maddison his flowers, as he told ITV SPORT.

“I think it was an excellent team performance, it was a quick turnaround from the last game,” said Saka. “We played really well and we were happy with the performance.

“Some of the lads definitely wanted to get on the scoresheet. Madders (James Maddison) over there, had an amazing performance and I think he deserved to score.

“But, at the end of the day, we are happy with the three points.”

JAMES MADDISON’S FUTURE

The short-term task for the goalscoring midfielder will be to help Leicester City survive relegation, before making a possible move in the summer.

In truth, given that he will have 12 months left to run on his contract, then he has to make some sort of call.

Managerless Tottenham have shown interest in Maddison before, but could their current situation, as well as question marks over Harry Kane’s future, could that now be off-putting?

Either way, one team that will be in the Champions League next season will be Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and they are certainly keen to bring the all-action midfielder to north London.
