Gabby Agbonlahor has told TalkSPORT (Thursday, 8.10AM) that Tottenham Hotspur would have beaten AC Milan on Wednesday night if Leicester City and England star James Maddison was in their side. Spurs are targeting Maddison.
Maddison, 26, has had a hand in 14 goals in 20 games this season – once again proving that he is one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League. But his contract at Leicester is due to expire at the end of next season.
On Wednesday night, Spurs drew 0-0 with Italian champions Milan. A woeful result for Spurs that saw them knocked out of the Champions League in the first knockout round of the competition. It comes after a 1-0 loss in the first leg.
The Telegraph report that Tottenham and Newcastle are among the teams interested in Maddison – but that he may cost north of £60m. Agbonlahor says Spurs would have beaten Milan, if they had Maddison in their starting side.
“No no.10, they really lack a no.10. James Maddison. Put Maddison in that team and they would have won the game,” Agbonlahor said, when discussing Tottenham’s lack of creativity against Milan in the Champions League clash.

But would Maddison even get into Tottenham’s side? Antonio Conte’s insistence on playing a 3-4-3 system has no room for a no.10. The club spent £60m on Richarlison and he is struggling for game time, not happy with Conte.
Spurs now only have the Premier League to focus on. Getting into the top four is the club’s only chance of keeping Harry Kane – with Conte now looking more than likely to move on. Things look bleak for Tottenham, at the moment.
But, they do have a run of games in which you would expect Spurs to gain maximum points. Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Everton are next – and Spurs fans will be demanding three consecutive victories.
