Everton loanee Dele Alli defended himself on Instagram after Besiktas manager Senol Gunes mockingly explained why he was absent from training.
Gunes initially told Turkish publication AA Spor, “Dele Alli, whom we allowed before, could not come right now. It must be raining. That’s why he couldn’t come. We are trying to hear from him.”
While Dele Alli was mocked on social media for how badly he has fallen off from his heyday at Tottenham Hotspur, the Everton loanee explained his absence from Besiktas training on Instagram.
Dele Alli explains Besiktas training absence in Instagram story
With just two goals in 10 starts for the Super Lig club this season, while his professionalism has often been questioned, the once-PFA Young Player of the Year has not particularly made waves in Turkey as well.
Despite many wanting to see Alli redeem himself and return to his free-scoring ways from a couple of years ago, that seems unlikely for the time being.
Now, Everton loanee Dele Alli has shared his side of the story on Instagram about why he missed training after the Besiktas technical director essentially said that he went AWOL.

“Hey guys, just had loads of messages so wanted to clear something up. The club gave me permission to attend a doctor’s appointment today. I’m due back in training tomorrow as normal.”
Alli must embrace the grind
Once lauded as the ‘next Frank Lampard’ by many, the 26-year-old’s career has panned out in a way not many would have expected at the time.
However, now that Dele Alli has explained on Instagram why he missed training, it’s high-time that he pulls up his socks and starts delivering at Besiktas.
As things stand, the Englishman has become a bit of a laughing stock and if a player that possesses his natural talent shies away from his own talent, it is unlikely that clubs around Europe will give him a second chance again.
