As Patrick Vieira was sacked as Crystal Palace manager, Pep Guardiola gave his verdict on the decision taken by the club.
It was reported on Thursday that chairman Steve Parish was growing increasingly frustrated about the Eagles’ failure to win a single game in 2023. Furthermore, he was ‘weighing up’ a potential change as Palace are only 3 points adrift of being in the relegation zone.
Now, it seems Parish’s patience as run out, which has meant Patrick Vieira is no longer Crystal Palace boss, as Pep Guardiola gave his thoughts on the news.
Pep Guardiola reacts to Patrick Vieira sack as Crystal Palace manager
It seemed like a matter of time until the Frenchman would have been relieved of his duties, especially considering they were set to face Arsenal of all teams in the Premier League next.
Ahead of the Sky Blues’ upcoming reunion with Vincent Kompany’s Burnley in the FA Cup, Pep Guardiola was quizzed about his verdict on Patrick Vieira getting the sack at Crystal Palace.

“I’m so sorry for him [Patrick Vieira]. Of course, we don’t know, I don’t know the reason why [he was sacked]. New opportunities wait around the corner. I don’t even think about how that affects their game against Arsenal”, he said, as quoted by journalist Ian Cheeseman.
Classy response
Often, fellow managers react to such sackings by simply feeling sorry for the man in question and wish them the best.
But fair play to Pep Guardiola for assuring Patrick Vieira that despite his sacking at Crystal Palace, he is bound to get more chances in the future.
While things have gone awry under the 46-year-old at Selhurst Park this season, his debut campaign was a success, which will encourage future employers to hire the Arsenal and French legend a lot sooner than expected.
