Ian Wright says Leandro Trossard has just got ‘better and better’ at Arsenal after Tottenham Hotspur reportedly missed out on his signature during the January transfer window.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham signed left-sided wide players during the winter transfer window and both, as of this moment, have had different results from those players.

Trossard moved to the Emirates from Brighton for £27 million (Sky Sports), whilst Arnaut Danjuma made a very late U-turn from Merseyside and opted to join Spurs on a loan deal from Villarreal.

Danjuma will be wondering why on earth he made such a move because he has only played 11 minutes in the Premier League, 27 minutes in two FA Cup games and only nine minutes in the Champions League.

In the meantime, Trossard was bagging three record-breaking assists in one half as Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal beat Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage over the weekend.

For whatever reason Spurs didn’t sign Trossard, despite their interest, it’s their rivals who are now reaping the rewards and Wright was full of praise, as he told Premier League Productions (13/03/23 at 2:10 pm).

“You have to mention Trossard because he came in when he came in,” said Wright. “Remember, he wasn’t even the first choice, which has really fallen into our lap.

“But he is somebody that’s come in and he is ready to go, from the first game until now, he has just got better and better at what he’s doing.”

TOTTENHAM AND ARSENAL IN JANUARY

Last January of last season, when the two clubs were fighting for fourth spot, it was Spurs who landed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.

The duo had a huge impact on Spurs securing fourth spot because their rivals, who booted out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, opted to sign nobody. That lack of fresh face proved to be costly.

But, fast forward to the present, it just goes to show how a healthy winter transfer window can provide teams with a much-needed boost for the second half of the season because Arsenal are still flying and those at Hotspur Way have been booted out of the Champions League and the FA Cup.
