Chris Sutton says it’s ‘really interesting’ that Mauricio Pochettino could make a return to Tottenham Hotspur amid talk of Antonio Conte’s future.

Days after getting knocked out of the Champions League by AC Milan, Spurs bounced back by beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 on Saturday and Sutton stated that fans have found Conte’s style of play ‘boring’.

On top of that, the former England striker spoke about that call to play a weaker team during their FA Cup exit to Sheffield United, all of which has played a part in the club’s current issues, as he told BT Sport (11/03/23 at 4:50 pm).

That has led to the club’s current problems where Conte is yet to sign a new long-term deal and there has been heavy talk about who could replace the Italian in the dugout.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Pochettino is being mentioned, but most recently, talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil shared what he has been told about Vincent Kompany to Tottenham.

Either way, it seems as though both Conte and Spurs will part ways in the summer and Sutton shared his thoughts on that possibility.

“I was really surprised by the lack of intensity (in midweek against AC Milan),” said Sutton. “But I think the big one, for most Spurs fans, was the team that was put out by Sheffield United.

“When you chuck everything into the mix, it’s not just one thing this season at Spurs. It’s the brand of football and Conte’s brand of football. Spurs fans think it’s boring.

“Spurs are thinking ‘well if Conte’s not going to commit and we don’t know what’s going to happen until the end of the season, then are we wasting a few months?’

“Why not get somebody in? Pochettino has been linked with a return, which would be really interesting.”

TOTTENHAM HAVE BECOME WEAKER

If Pochettino does return, then he will be joining a group of players and a club that has become much weaker since he was sacked by Daniel Levy and Spurs in November 2019.

It could be argued that the Argentine himself has also gone backwards because the gig at PSG didn’t go as well as he would have liked.

Either way, it’s probably not a wise call for Pochettino or Spurs to return to each other’s arms because there is more chance of things going wrong.
