Jermaine Jenas has blasted the Liverpool defence as Phillip Billing opened the scoring for Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
A comedy of errors at the back left the Danish international with all the space in the world to tap the ball into the back of the net, with many criticising Virgil van Dijk in particular for giving up in his attempt to stop the cross.
Now, Jermaine Jenas has also criticised the Liverpool defence as Phillip Billing scored one of the easiest goals he has all season for Bournemouth.
Jermaine Jenas slates the Liverpool defence for Phillip Billing goal vs Bournemouth
Off the back of their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United where even Callum Wilson acknowledged that they were back to their best, things have gone south extremely quickly.
While it seemed like a write-off for Liverpool to get over the line against Bournemouth, Jermaine Jenas slated their defence for the Phillip Billing opener as the visitors have been brought back to earth after being all smiles last Sunday.
“Initially I thought that maybe he was offside because of Liverpool’s reaction, they were so slow and sluggish. But once they get in behind, it’s a simple ball in and no one tracks the run of Billing. He’s a player who has had a growing influence in this game and what a finish!”

“Defensively, I think it is really poor from Liverpool”, he said on BBC Sport.
False dawn?
While Jurgen Klopp’s men were undeniably devastating against Erik ten Hag’s men, it is worth questioning whether their victory was a false dawn.
As Jermaine Jenas said, the Liverpool defence, which has been questionable throughout the season were disappointing once again as Phillip Billing sent the home fans into a frenzy after his strike.
If that does not sum up a chunk of their struggles this term, what does? It may have been slightly premature for many to suggest that they were back to their brilliant best after one result, albeit being a historic one.
